Jewelry Care Guide

Built to last. Here’s how to keep it that way.

At Hommes Oro, every piece is engineered for everyday confidence. A simple care routine keeps your finish brilliant and your stones shining for years.

Quick Start: The 3 Golden Rules

  1. Wipe after wear. A soft dry cloth removes oils, sweat, and product residue that dull shine. Clean with a soft, dry cloth to maintain shine. Remove impurities with mild diluted soap and warm water. Dry thoroughly before storing in its pouch.
  2. Keep pieces separate. Store each item in its pouch or case to avoid micro-scratches.
  3. Avoid harsh chemicals. Chlorine, bleach, household cleaners, cologne, perfume and abrasive pastes can attack any plated finish.

Daily Wear Guidance

Water & Sweat

  • Shower/Gym: You can wear your pieces. After heavy sweat or soap exposure, rinse with lukewarm water and dry fully.
  • Pool & Ocean: Chlorine and salt accelerate wear. If you swim, rinse immediately and dry thoroughly. Regular pool use can shorten finish life on any plated jewelry.

Fragrance, Sunscreen, & Grooming

  • Sprays, lotions, and hair products can leave films that dull shine.
  • Apply products first, let them dry, then put on your jewelry.

Work, Sports & Impact

  • Jewelry is made to move with you, but repeated heavy impact (weights, contact sports, rough surfaces) increases the risk of scratches, bent links, or loosened stones/clasps. Wear with awareness.

Cleaning—Step by Step

After Most Wears (60 seconds)

  1. Wipe the piece with a soft, dry microfiber cloth.
  2. For clasps and crevices, fold the cloth into a point and buff gently.

Monthly Deep Clean

  1. Mix a few drops of mild dish soap in a bowl of lukewarm water.
  2. Dip a soft cloth (or soft-bristle brush for iced areas) and lightly clean. Do not scrub aggressively.
  3. Rinse with clean lukewarm water.
  4. Pat completely dry; air-dry 5–10 minutes before storing.

Pearls & Specialty Details

  • Wipe with a clean, damp cloth only; do not soak.
  • Avoid steam or ultrasonic machines for any plated jewelry.

Never use: silver dips, tarnish removers, abrasive pastes, baking soda scrubs, alcohol/acetone, or ultrasonic/steam cleaners. These can damage plated finishes and loosen stones.

Storage & Travel

  • One piece per pouch or compartment. Prevents micro-abrasion.
  • Use a hard case for travel to protect stones and keep chains from tangling.
  • Keep in a dry, cool place. Humidity speeds up surface wear on any plated finish. (Silica packets help.)
  • Lay flat heavy chains/bracelets to avoid kinks.

Do’s & Don’ts (Easy Reference)

Do

  • Do wipe after wear and before storage.
  • Do store separately in a pouch/case.
  • Do rinse/dry after sweat, pool, or ocean.
  • Do use mild soap + lukewarm water for deep cleaning.

Don’t (or be mindful of)

  • Don’t use silver polish, dips, or abrasives.
  • Don’t soak or use ultrasonic/steam.
  • Don’t spray cologne, sunscreen, or hair products directly on jewelry. Fragrance, sunscreen, or hair products can speed up finish wear—apply them before jewelry, not after.
  • Feel free to wear your jewelry during most activities, but heavy impact and abrasive contact raise the risk of broken links, loosened stones, or defective clasps.
  • Sleeping in jewelry is common, but can cause tangling, bent links, and stress on settings over time.

Troubleshooting & Quick Fixes

Looks dull/cloudy

  • Wash hands, then gently clean with mild soap + lukewarm water; dry and buff. Film from lotions or soap is the usual culprit.

Dark marks on skin

  • Clean the piece—residue plus sweat can transfer. If you have a high-pH perspiration or very reactive skin, consider stainless steel-base styles and keep pieces dry after workouts.

Light scratches

  • Light scratches are a normal sign of wear. Reduce stacking and store separately to minimize them.

Service, Repairs & Restorations

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I shower with my jewelry?
Yes. Our finishes are engineered for everyday wear. Rinse and dry after soaps or shampoos to keep shine high. For maximum longevity, you may choose to remove it before showering—but it’s built to handle daily life.

Can I swim with it?
You can, but chlorine and salt shorten the finish life of jewelry. If you do swim, rinse well and dry thoroughly.

Will it tarnish or fade?
Properly cared for pieces maintain their look for a long time. All jewelry shows normal micro-wear over years, especially with heavy abrasion or chemical exposure.

Is it safe for sensitive skin?
Most customers with sensitive skin do well with our finishes. Keep pieces clean and dry after workouts.

Can I use silver polish or ultrasonic cleaners?
No. Both can damage finishes and loosen stones.

Gym safe?
Yes for most exercises, but be mindful of high-impact workouts or abrasive equipment (like bar knurling) which may cause wear or loosen stones. Wipe clean after workouts.
